Google Business Profile comes first
For a clinic, the map pack sits above the organic results and takes the majority of clicks for "near me" searches. Your Business Profile is the single highest-leverage asset you own.
- Primary category matters enormously. "Physiotherapist" and "Physical therapy clinic" surface differently. Pick the one matching your highest-value service and add the rest as secondary.
- Services should be listed individually, each with a description. Most clinics leave this blank.
- Hours must be accurate, including holidays. Google demotes profiles with reported inaccuracies.
- Photos should be added monthly. Interior, exterior, team, equipment. Profiles with recent photos see materially higher engagement.
- Q&A is publicly editable. Seed it with real questions and answer them yourself before someone else does.
Reviews: volume, recency, response
Ask every satisfied patient, every time, with a direct link. The most effective moment is immediately after a successful appointment, by text, with a one-tap link.
Respond to every review, positive and negative. Responses are visible to prospective patients and signal an active business. Keep responses to negative reviews short, non-defensive, and never disclose any clinical detail — PHIPA obligations apply in Ontario and a defensive reply that confirms someone was a patient is a compliance problem, not just a PR one.
Location pages
One page per physical location, each containing:
- Location name, full address, phone number in text (not only in an image)
- Hours, parking and transit notes
- Practitioners at that location with credentials
- Services offered there specifically
- Embedded map
- Reviews from patients at that location
Do not duplicate copy across location pages. Near-identical pages compete with each other and dilute both.
Service pages
A page per treatment, not one page listing everything. "Shockwave therapy Mississauga" can rank. "Our Services" cannot. Each page should answer what the treatment is, what it treats, what a session involves, how many sessions are typical, and whether insurance covers it.
Schema markup
Add MedicalClinic or the appropriate LocalBusiness subtype to every location page, with address, phone, opening hours and geo coordinates. Add FAQPage schema to service pages. This is how search engines and AI assistants extract facts about your clinic reliably.
Citations and consistency
Your name, address and phone number must match exactly across your website, Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, RateMDs and any Ontario professional directories. Inconsistent listings — an old suite number, a former phone line — actively suppress local ranking.
A realistic sequence
- Week 1: Claim and fully complete Google Business Profile
- Week 2: Fix name, address and phone consistency across major directories
- Week 3–4: Build or rewrite location pages with schema
- Month 2: One service page per major treatment
- Ongoing: Review requests after every appointment, monthly photos, respond to everything
Frequently asked questions
How do clinics rank in the Google map pack?
Ranking in the local map pack depends on three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. You can influence relevance through your Google Business Profile categories and services, and prominence through review volume, review recency and local citations.
How many Google reviews does a clinic need?
There is no fixed threshold, but clinics ranking well in competitive Ontario markets typically hold 50+ reviews with a steady flow of new ones. Recency matters as much as total count.
Do I need a separate page for each clinic location?
Yes. Each physical location should have its own page with unique content, the location's address, hours, practitioners and embedded map.
